Political Tombstone of Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bolaji O. Akinyemi

As a realist in our world of fiction and daily drama, I owe it a point of duty to deflate exuberance and tame expectations. I am not a fan of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and I am not nursing to go the Okowa way of deflection nor play the surprise visit game of Kwankwaso on PBAT like Joseph of Arimathea did to Jesus; never to be seen until the body of Jesus was dressed to be buried. What will follow the Kwankwaso visit?

The drift to the side of milk and honey in the midst of our economic barrenness didn’t respect the eloquence Daniel Bwala. Hunger has returned Jesutega Onokpasa back to his senses and he has promised to stay within APC to stop BAT second term. PBAT may be politically savy enough to ignore the claim of the gluttonous to hunger. But it will be suicidal to ignore the armies of the hungry masses the PBAT policy has recruited and trained to survive anyhow they can.

I am privileged daily to share class in politics with many who by learning and attainment are far above my class in life. The gift of a man as the scripture says will make way for him, for he will sit before kings. May grace to become an indicator for kings rest more on me.

In the classroom of political engagement amidst many I have met on the blue street, one that I have come to respect more than others, who actually came out of the blues street to look for me in the brown street of human reality is Da J. S. Akuns (Galadima Daffo), an infectious Batman. He is to the BAT FC what I am to the Arsenal FC: a believer in pure hope. I am a Gunner who wouldn’t port to Barca like Tunde Odesola. Akuns is unconstitutionally a BATman. Party or not BAT all the way. His exuberance of BAT’s achievement of putting the feudalists at the fringe of political games is simply, for me, over-celebrated! One out of the many who believe BAT is a top-notch political striker and captain. On those, I agree but the obvious lack of cohesion of the team is not hidden from our eyes. At most, only 3 out of the BAT team may scale above average in performance assessment. The best of Batmen are outside the team, doing a good job of “die-hard fans”, cheering their team in the hope of renewed hope. One of such is Akuns. Da, as I fondly call him, is too ideological to serve sycophancy. If there is any flicker of hope at all in BAT for me, it is due to the communication he regularly shares with me.

The game has just started, and we are not into the halftime break yet, which will come on May 29th 2025.

On the average, Da Akuns and I share between 10 to 15 articles daily, he is a voracious reader. So when he shared with me at 12.14am of 29th April 2025 the article titled; “2027: tinubu’s Throne Trembles”, written by Aare Amerijoye Dotb whose name sounds fictitious and gave his thoughts on it as “The Political Tombstone of Bola Ahmed Tinubu:

(1) Senator in 1992.

(2) Governor in 1999-2007.

(3) in 2007; forsook Senate ticket & delivered presidential ticket to two protégé’s respectively;

(4) in 2011, delivered a presidential ticket to a 2nd presidential protégé.

(5) in 2015 & 2019, delivered presidential tickets to a 3rd presidential protégé.

(6) in 2023, secured for himself a presidential ticket unto victory.

(7) in 2027, delivered a presidential ticket to a 4th presidential protégé unto victory!!!

… R.I.P., the greatest African Leader & Politician of Global Repute !!!”

Though a daily routine between us, it was needless to bother him about the identity of the writer on Tinubu’s Throne. That name came to me as a pen name. I stand to be corrected. I thought it wise to deflate the exuberance of Da Akuns and audit his frictional expectations to reality!

Will PBAT be the king of the castle Da and many other Nigerians have built in their heads to deliver their expectations?

Exuberance is a common factor for failure. It is the reason Obi and his children, the Obidients failed in 2023 and may fail again in 2027!

Obi had no Governor in 2023, not even a political party in the real sense of a political party. Labour Party was a Special Purpose Vehicle. It served the purpose of those who hijacked the Party to remotely drive the SPV for the accident that the exuberance of Obi and his children didn’t properly analyse. Singing and shouting as they rode on the blues street a vehicle  that wouldn’t make it to the ultimate bus stop of polling station on the brown street to deliver victory. As on the critical day of election, in some polling units, they lost more votes to absence of Labour Party agents and polling units coordination than what was counted!

One thing we can’t take away from the Obidient movement is the pure nature of its funding; while Okowa and PDP Governors depleted the Delta State and their states treasuries to fund Atiku and the national treasury funded the need for APC people to stop BAT who’s their member; by deploying the Naira redesign project of Mohammadu Buhari is the most wastefulness venture by any state in modern history. Nothing has stiffled the Nigerian economy more than the unfortunate naira redesign policy that left all at loss. The Nigerian State lost nothing to Obi’s campaign process, which was the first show casing of best global practice in our democratic experiment.

The mysteriously gotten 2 million controversial votes from Plateau State didn’t cost Obi’s movement 2 billion naira. The highest presidential votes from any state since 1979. How much the 231,591 votes for Tinubu cost Wike in Rivers State of billions, blood and lives is right before us playing out in the declaration of a State of Emergency; what a lesson! To what could come out of a region where the need to stay alive decides the ballot!

Has the need to stay alive in Plateau, Benue, Southern Kaduna, etcetera changed? If Plateau voted for lives when they weren’t sure Obi could save their lives, what would happen between now and 2027 if Tinubu delivers on security of lives and property across all homelands where genocide are marked with propagandish nomenclature?

Tinubu, no doubt is the man, to beat in 2027, he may however beat himself. As he has crippled opposition, overrun political economy and castrated political investors, no one is capable of impregnating “Lady 2027” to deliver expectations aside him on one side, and the people on the other. The opposition as we know it are completely confused. But BAT is so soaked in the game of politics without giving due diligence to the dynamics of expectation that served Obi 6,984,520 million votes in 2023!

The frustrated close to 7 million Obidients who voted at home and their uncounted cousin in the diaspora are my fear; the movement may crystallize into a revolution on or before 2027. Depending on who is providing it leadership. But I doubt if the political elites will get away with their crimes?

It may be politically expedient for those intending to write results of election in 2027 to let go of some states to the Obidients. Taking Abia, shouldn’t cross any sane mind! How? Plateau may or should be added to Abia if the expectation of the people for safety is not served should be their calculation.

Consumed by the political dexterity of BAT, Da Jonathan Sunday Akuns, like many others are enjoying and screaming in excitement of the master dribbler that Tinubu has become on the pitch of the political league that will lead to the 2027 tournament!

Unfortunately, like in the game of football, dribbles don’t count. Victory in the game of football is determined by the number of goals scored. Votes scored, determines victory in a political game!

Anyhow, get the ball in the net and the votes in the ballot box!

Reminiscent of the hand of God and the head of Maradona 1986 goal that stopped England at the world cup!

But BAT and his fans must not forget that as in the game of football, an own goal will count. The only way therefore to avoid a proverbial own goal in 2027 is not to dress the man who could cause it for the match. Such a man should simply sit on the bench to lead the Nation to a permanent victory over her traducers or play in the game to get the nation to war and to division.

This piece is a caution, writing in response to Akuns composition of his political eulogy or an epitaph of transition from a President to a Father of Modern Nigeria.

My words to Akuns; you can’t refer to Tinubu as the greatest African leader that is fitting for builders of men and not makers of men. Tinubu hasn’t built anybody. He has identified potential in men and made them. There are no connections between Tinubu and the men he made like you have between Awolowo and Lateef Kayode Jakande; Awolowo and James Bola Ige, or Awolowo and Pa Adekunle Ajasin etc!

How many of BAT protégés are showing forth the traits of his political DNA?

Knowing the penchant of Akuns for a greater Plateau State and a free homeland settlement across the country, I picked on his place of nativity to say until the Ron ethnic people were delivered from the grip of gangster violence of marauders in the hills and forests, and, the feudal grip on the jugular of power loosen and all who are born to rule are brought to the ultimate realisation that all men are born equal, but the best among them who have grown the capacity for leadership should administer leadership.

Tinubu has done nothing.

Until, Plateau State that is bigger than the state of Israel grows in economic development and surpasses Israel in Agricultural earnings, the President has done nothing. Until Zamfara is put on the trajectory of rivaling Dubai in development and mindset, and desist from making religion a tool for human limitations but of emancipation through good governance by the present Governor to serve as a model for those who have chosen fanaticism as a political plot,  Tinubu has done nothing. Until more Governors like that of Niger State can be found, who will prize public perception over personal pride and take back words deemed offensive to others. The President is yet to start off on his mission for which God permitted him to hold power in trust while it lasted.

Men may get to power by mistake or in error, but power is the prerogative of God. It mustn’t be excised mistakenly or in error. Every man in power has a purpose in God! And should ask, why did God allow me into his room over other men?

What we have seen so far are political braggadocio of a field Marshal who hasn’t delivered the expectations of the people over which he sits nor the purpose of God for whom he holds power in trust!

May the fear of him for whom power is in the hand of BAT consumed him, may the vision of the day he will stand before God to give account of his stewardship in power flash before him.

Tinubu stands at the precipice; a foot in honour and the other in dishonour, where he will end will be determined by his choice!

To tilt to the pull of his political sycophants who are interested in the largesses and spoils of his many won political war or to bury his second term ambition to see the rise of the next African nation with another founding father and follow the honour and example that Nelson Mandela has become in global leadership studies!

He has done it before, putting his long time ambition ahead of the glittering moment of opportunity;
in 2007, Tinubu forsook his fully documented ticket with INEC to make Ganiyu Solomon the Senator of Lagos Central. He chose to focus on securing the governorship ticket of Lagos for his camp against the camp of president Obasanjo. It worked out well with enormous potential in political worth he has left in history to this day!

Repeating such a feat should be his mindset at this time. Two terms or three terms as his sycophants may be singing; does it really matter how many terms a President serves? What is done with the opportunity and not the length of time is what will count for honour at the end of the day! and in the annals of history.

Is Tinubu a father of political sons or Mentor of Protégés with the capacity to lead the nation to the land of his dream? God in Great men are known by trans-generational visions. Hence he is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob; the phrase ends with Jacob because in Jacob the promise of God for a nation found expression through the sons of Jacob who became the builders of the tribes of Israel!

Can Tinubu find a son in the south bloc to fill a 2nd term and another son from his political bowel against the backdrop of the fula hegemony in deploying terrorism as a strategy to whittle the tenure of a president of south bloc extraction cum institutionalisation of bigotry to keep control of power?

I listed some risk elements that encrust the presidency cum candidacy of Tinubu in 2027, in my article; “Tinubu’s second term at risk”, none till this moment have been mitigated by any sturdy solutions! My thoughts though, the zeal about seeing the tribes and tongues that we are, growing into a nationhood of secular disposition without prejudice for the exceptionally good of all is the work for which Tinubu must be consumed!

The only way to re-write his past is not in what he can become, which he has already become; The President! of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. There is nothing more to become after becoming the President; but the father of Modern Nigeria is open at this time to no one but him. Will he take it!

The exploits of Singapore can be repeated in Nigeria only if Tinubu is willing to lay his ambition down for our collective greatness. Will “Emi lokan” become “Awa lokan”? Or ambition will continue to hold the reign for the greedy to continue their enterprises of self political preservation at the cost of our national greatness?
